THE PERFORMANCES - WEEK FOUR / LAST WEEK! / 27 to 31 JULY
Last week: 27 to 31 July
Lübecker Str. 14, 10559 Berlin-Tiergarten
All performances start at 7:45 pm.
THE PERFORMANCES is a series of events that are taking place at a storefront in the neighborhood of Tiergarten throughout July 2009.
THE PERFORMANCES is organized by THE OFFICE.
Based in Berlin, THE OFFICE temporarily occupies empty spaces throughout the city. The goal is to re-discover Berlin, to channel and transmit information, and provide space for discursive thinking around the arts. THE OFFICE is a collaboration between Ellen Blumenstein, Katharina Fichtner, Maribel Lopez and Kathrin Meyer. Founded in May 2009, THE OFFICE explores different models of cooperation between curators, writers and artists outside of the institutional context.

"Nora"
A Microdrama by Kerstin Cmelka
"In my collection of "Microdramas" I use excerpts from existing dramatic texts as well as clichéd feature film scenes and theatrical shorts that already found their form, function and meaning as well as their audience in order to rehearse and perform them – for camera and live – with friends acting as amateur performers. The potential of language, gesture and mimicry in this folk-like theatre play material lies in its rhythmical, bodily rehearsal and repetitive use and mediation and is reinforced and brought onto another plain of meanings and connotations through the hermetic and intimate atmosphere in which it is trained in. Its format is expanded through the coexistence of privacy and the identification with the suggested characters that have to be performed." (Kerstin Cmelka)
Daniel Müller-Friedrichsen
"Insert subtitle here"
Daniel Mueller-Friedrichsen works resolving the borders between performance, documentary and cinema. He makes correlations between the media and the nature of documentation as a unique performance itself. The videos and performances become a narrative tableau including a performative character in production process, linguistic-ness through text, association and in ephemeral existentiality. The setting and staging of the performance-film becomes a performance itself by repeating and duplicating the experience of the authentic. Its not only a filmed past, it provokes its own new performance.
Opening: New Cultural Agencies
Film Screening: "La Commune (Paris, 1871)" at »Faites votre jeu!« 25.7. - 11.00 AM
presented by /Rebond pour la Commune/ and the Free Class FFM.
*July 25th. 11.00 am*, at the Altes Polizeigefängnis,
Klapperfeldgasse 5 (Near Konstablerwache).
In Peter Watkins film La Commune (Paris, 1871) more than 200 actors interpret characters of the Commune on a stage-like set, with particular focus on the Popincourt neighborhood in the XIth arrondissement. They voice their own thoughts and feelings concerning the social and political reforms. A journalist for Versailles Television broadcasts a soothing and official view of events while a Commune television is set up to provide the perspectives of the Paris rebels.
The film, a 5 hour 45 minute event will be presented by the group Rebond pour la Commune. The cast later decided to form this association to further a discussion on key elements in the film and its production process. For this presentation of the film, the Rebond will be comprised of the casting director Patrick Watkins and three of the films' non-actor participants.
There will be intermittent breaks throughout the day with refreshments.

Paola Anzichè - Aggrovigliamenti
”Aggrovigliamenti”
Just To Tell You Once Again, Who´s Bad...
The Hazzard Of Fuzz
Have you ever asked yourself: "What is magic actually?" Is magic made up of "tricks" like: a disappearing coin or the appearance of a glass of orange juice? – and what is even a "trick?" What can a magician show that a film, a computer or technology can not? Isn't a microwave also a fantastic magical device? Place an ice cube inside and in just a few seconds "Abracadabra" you have boiling water. Bravo. Magic is much more than "just doing a trick." It is a game involving the fantasy of the audience. Only in their heads can the illusions, which invoke confusion, be sparked by the magician on the stage.
WANNABE
Vernissage: 06. Juli 2009 19 Uhr
Ausstellungsdauer: 07. Juli 2009 bis 09. August 2009
