KLEIDET MICH IN SEIDE
YOUNG CONTEMPORARY ART

Veronika Burger, Jana Hartmann, Bernd Metz, Anselm Schenkluhn,
Sarah Schoderer, Christine Straszewski und Silja Yvette

Herzliche Einladung zur Eröffnung am Donnerstag, 18. Februar 2016 ab 19 Uhr

Ausstellungsdauer 19. bis 28. Februar 2016

Eintritt frei

Kunstbummel mit Dr. Nicole Birnfeld am Samstag, den 20. Februar 2016 um 12-13:30 Uhr

Diese Ausstellung ist
ein Ersatz
für eine iPhone-App, die ich
seit Jahren vorschlage, die aber keiner will.
Diese App
würde
die Zeitskala/Tonhöhe
von Musik (gespielt)
in einem Auto entsprechend
seiner Be- oder Entschleunigung
verändern.

Oder:
Bei steter Geschwindigkeit
tauscht das Publikum
die vorbeiziehende Landschaft
für die Musik ein.
Wenn aber jemand langsamer wird,
wird entweder die Musik oder die Landschaft
arbeitslos. Wenn aber die Musik
für eine kurze Zeit auch langsamer würde,
wäre das hilfreich
für eine neue
Einstellung.
Das Publikum ist zufrieden
und muss die Kunsthalle Bern nicht besuchen.

Um diese Anwendung zu ersetzen,
teile ich alle Arbeit auf
in streitbaren

z. B. die Kühltürme von Bernd und Hilla Becher,
ist das Bettlaken vielen unbekannt.
Beides dient nur als Aufhänger,
aber kann helfen,
die Cornflakes ins Bild zu tun.
Da das sicher schwierig einzusehen ist,
biete ich Milka und Ritter Sport an
zur Betrachtung von Blumenbildern
wie Tulpen, Kamelien, Hyazinthen
von Henri Fantin-Latour.

MARIA LOBODA 'DOMESTIC AFFAIRS AND DEATH'

MARIA LOBODA

'DOMESTIC AFFAIRS AND DEATH'

Opening: Thursday 4 February 2016, 8 - 10 pm

February 4 - April 2
There was a woman in a steel-built city who had all that money could buy, she had gold and dividends and trains and houses, and she had pets to play with, but she had no sphinx.

So she besought them to bring her a live sphinx; and therefore they went to the menageries, and then to the forests and the desert places, and yet could find no sphinx.

And she would have been content with a little lion but that one was already owned by a woman she knew; so they had to search the world again for a sphinx.

And still there was none.

But they were not men that it is easy to baffle, and at last they found a sphinx in a desert at evening watching a ruined temple whose gods she had eaten hundreds of years ago when her hunger was on her. And they cast chains on her, who was still with an ominous stillness, and took her westwards with them and brought her home.

And so the sphinx came to the steel-built city.

And the woman was very glad that she owned a sphinx: but the sphinx stared long into her eyes one day, and softly asked a riddle of the woman.

And the woman could not answer, and she died.

And the sphinx is silent again and none knows what she will do.

Waiting to be occupied…
There’s no one, it’s empty, there’s no need waiting….
WAIT! There’s someone, a presence so strong….
Steadily she sits, waiting and watching as time passes by; experiencing each transforming moment. It becomes a cycle that doesn’t seem to end. She seems to be present yet absent; awakened by her absence only does her presence exist.

AMY SILLMAN - STUFF CHANGE

AMY SILLMAN
STUFF CHANGE
FEBRUARY 4 - MARCH 12
OPENING RECEPTION: THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 6-8 PM

Sikkema Jenkins & Co. is pleased to present stuff change, a solo exhibition of work by Amy Sillman, on view at the gallery from February 4 to March 12, 2016.

In German, the word for "metabolism" is stoffwechsel—literally “stuff change.” The artist, currently living part-time in Germany, is interested in the idea of the metabolism as an analogy for both the making and the viewing of painting. Metabolism: a process by which the body changes something from one form to another, the work of the body itself, a process of breaking things down--which could also be called a form of abstraction. This brings the artist to the question: what is the work of a painting? In a recent essay in Frieze d/e, Sillman says: "I would call it a metabolism: the intimate and discomforting process of things changing as they go awry, [as they] look uncomfortable, have to be confronted, repaired, or risked, i.e. trying to figure something out while doing it." This finding of form and de-formation, transformation, destruction and re-building renders paintings that are both delicate and tough.

Sillman began making animated digital drawings in 2010, and found in animation an avenue for extending over time the process of finding forms and narratives that her drawings have been doing all along. Now, her analog working method clearly indicates the interwoven logic of painting time versus filmic time. Her paintings incorporate both fast-moving changes as well as a slow, almost archeological accretion of dense layers often continuously changing for over a year. Rather than endpoints, her paintings propose forms and materials in flux—suggesting a continuously changing future.

With her newest working method Sillman sets canvases printed with her own drawings next to each other like animation cels, and paints loosely on top, thus blurring distinctions between the handmade, the digitally modified, and the mechanically reproduced. Inkjet on canvas is commonly used in contemporary painting as way to include photographic work, but Sillman uses her own drawings as the base, and then loops back to hand-made marks on top, thus returning to the beginning again and again. In doing so, she reveals the self-reflexive aspects of time and process in painting, and asks the viewer to look at painting not as a final product, but as a vital process.

Amy Sillman earned her BFA in 1979 from the School of Visual Arts, New York and her MFA in 1995 from Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. She has received numerous awards and grants, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Louise Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award, the Guna S. Mundheim Fellowship in the Visual Arts from the American Academy in Berlin. Her work has been exhibited widely and is included in the collections of many prestigious institutions including The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

SEYOUNG YOON - Dynamic Kids Club - Territory and Jealousy

SEYOUNG YOON
Dynamic Kids Club
Territory and Jealousy

January 22 – March 05, 2016
at Truth and Consequences

Dynamic Kids Club

                 and                  ’s world colliding.
Standing below, there existed only a resonance and some gravitative thrills, as if it was all meant to be forgotten. They huddled together for warmth and one day spotted one of them voguing and passing the rest by.
The unstable oscillation between the two remained in the air. Which one was dominant, the bottle half-full or half-empty? We know that no one belonged to the club. Or that the club was somewhere there but empty, only vacant seats awaiting empty bodies to keep shadows of this war, imagining and glancing at the resonance of the following one. Eyes busy, following a muted pulsation, repeating ‘This way to where and that way to where’.
Linny was written in 1995 by the same person of a different name. Some 20 odd years later, a story decomposes, disintegrates. Checking out the black boxes after its time, screens are finding its missing points to be a scene, yet can never return. Each embraces the fragmented jarring note on their own ways. No denying, no amends to be made, only the tongue remembers the taste.

Territory and Jealousy

                    and                ’s world colliding.
Standing below, there existed only a resonance and some cheap thrills, since it was all meant to be forgotten. They huddled together for warmth and one day spotted one of them voguing and passing the rest by.
A world where 30 people are living in, inquisitively smooth, repeating prosperity.
But an eradicator missing now. This way to where and that way to where ?
A perverse act,
Instead of flowers, an event possibly for 50 years later, an on-going shout out of distress signals (SOS) tries to invervene. This time sitting by itself, not leaning, hearing people say stick to the lane and try not to go astray. But wild they are, and someone on the floor of the house hissed for silence. The unreliable narrator with pre-emptive tactics and a watery wilderness awaits for a complete infatuation.
The steam escaped with a loud hissing noise, allowing the request that you sat upon (your lips).
By the end of the show a tragic irony might prove things wrong, perhaps this liason is leading them nowhere. But in the meantime they look complementary. An old tendency mixed with new delinquents, now we should talk about whether it is a missing page or a forgotten page.

Reality changes all the time. It moves and is transformed incessantly by the interpretation and experiences of our individual ego. Reality is part of life as it brings the necessary changes and meanings that we all need to express ourselves. However, with the incessant changes that we all need, realities seem to change with the transformation of consciousness. It can never be fixed, never be constant, but remains limited in time and space. Reality is as fluid as water, as ephemeral as air, and therefore, in itself, can never be rooted, anchored or possessed, since it comprises nothing other than changing appearances. So clearly, since reality is a projection of our own understanding of something, Emptiness is devoid of reality.
