Christine Edwards und Emily Manzo sind Veteranen der New Yorker/Brooklyn Musik Szene.
2007 veröffentlichten sie ihr Debut-Album "Gueen´s Head" auf dem Social Registry Label. Dieser Veröffentlichung folgte eine Tour als Support der britischen Kult-Band The Nightingales, was dazu führte, dass sie im Jahr 2009 ihr zweites Album names "Superstition" auf dem Label BIG PRINT des Nightingales Sängers Robert Loyd veröffentlichten. Aus dieser Kollaboration ergab sich dann die Zusammenkunft mit Hans Joachim Irmler, dem legendären Organisten der deutschen Krautrock Veteranen Faust. (Hintergrund: Die Nightingales hatten 2009 ein Album auf Irmler´s Label Klangbad veröffentlicht).
Das dritte Album "No Rest" wurde dann in Irmler´s Faust Studios aufgenommen und produziert und auf dem Klangbad Label im Jahr 2010 veröffentlicht. 2011 kehrten Christy & Emily wieder in die Faust Studios nach Deutschland zurück, um ihr neues Album aufzunehmen. Dieses Mal zusammen mit dem Bassspieler Peter Kerlin und der Schlagzeugerin Kristin Müller. Daraus entstanden ist das vierte Album, welches im Februar 2012 veröffentlicht wird.

Back in 2007 Christy & Emily were about to release their debut album, Gueen's Head, on New York label The Social Registry and they were booked to open for the legendary Nightingales. For those who don't know the legend of the Nightingales, they are the brain spawn of Robert Lloyd, infamous Birmingham native and John Peel favorite. He had been on the scene since 1977 with a band called The Prefects, who played with all the heavy hitters: The Clash, Buzzcocks, The Slits. The Prefects matured into the Nightingales during the 80's, and when NY DJ Dan Selzer reissued the old Prefects canon, he booked them a tour in the US and got them a show in Brooklyn. Enter Christy & Emily.
One wouldn't think that a post-punker like Lloyd would dig two girls singing intimate songs, but they floored him. He waltzed up to them after their show and said, "Will you come to Europe with me?"
Fast forward to August 2008. Christy & Emily play the Klangbad festival, three days of every kind of music one can drink in with German lager, all curated by Hans Joachim Irmler, the mastermind keyboardist of prog rock staple Faust. Christy & Emily play to a large crowd; open-mouthed, silent, listening, mesmerized by the duo's enchanting dynamic. After the festival Irmler invites C&E to his studio to record a brand new album for his label, Klangbad. No Rest is that album.
In 2011, Christy & Emily retured to the Faust Studios to record their new album - this time with the Bassist Peter Kerlin and the drummer Kristin Müller. What will now be their fourth Album, Tic-Tac-Toe, is the result of these sessions, and will be released on the European tour in February 2012.
Elaine Mgk is the new venue at the courtyard of the Museum für Gegenwartskunst Basel.
