TERESE SCHULMEISTER: FRIEDRICHSHOF VIDEOS (1984-1991)

TERESE SCHULMEISTER:
FRIEDRICHSHOF VIDEOS (1984-1991)

Video works by Terese Schulmeister, an active member of the far-left Friedrichshof Commune operated by Vienna Actionist Otto Muehl between 1972 and 1991.

Made in collaboration with Muehl and shot onsite at Friedrichshof, Schulmeister's videos satrize moments from Modern or Contemporary art history. We visit the twilight gloom and suicidal social networks of Secessionist Vienna ('Back to Fucking Cambridge', 1987), get a schlocky retelling of the Solanas/Warhol incident ('Andy’s Cake', 1991), and are introduced to Vincent van Gogh: proto-hippy and radical ('Vincent', 1984).

Appearing alongside commune members is cameo cast that includes Nam June Paik, Martin Kippenberger, Harald Szeemann, Maria Lassnig, Lawrence Weiner, Dieter Roth, Albert Oehlen, Heimo Zobernig, Hermann Nitsch and Norman Rosenthal.

Terese Schulmeister was born in Gmunden, Austria and lives and works between Vienna and her studio, which remains at Friedrichshof.

TERESE SCHULMEISTER: FRIEDRICHSHOF VIDEOS (1984-1991) is curated for The Duck by Paul Pieroni.
